Political Aspirations! Kim Visits White House To Discuss Prison Reform With The Prez

Kim Kardashian visited the White House to meet with President Donald Trump to discuss prison reform on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Wearing an all-black pantsuit and bright green heels, Kardashian pranced into the President’s home with her attorney, Shawn Holley, to discuss Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old non-violent drug offender whose case she had championed since 2017. The Keeping Up with the Kardashain’s star reached out to Ivanka Trump to plead her case and was subsequently invited to the White House. “Happy Birthday Alice Marie Johnson. Today is for you,” Kardashian Tweeted on Wednesday before going to the White House.

“I’ve been in communication with the White House and trying to bring her case to the president’s desk and figure out how we can get her out,” Kardashian told Mic in an interview. “That’s such a huge step from where we started with that not even being on their radar.”

Johnson was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of drug conspiracy and money laundering. She was divorced, lost her job due to a gambling addiction, lost her house, filed for bankruptcy and her son was killed. She then began working with drug dealers and was arrested, tried and found guilty.

“If you think about a decision that you’ve made in your life and you get life without the possibility of parole for your first-time nonviolent offense, there’s just something so wrong with that,” Kardashian said about the sentence.

“Where I’m at in my life right now, just like, to go and spend my money buying material things just doesn’t satisfy me the way that it used to,” Kardashian said about her decision to help Johnson. “To save someone’s life and do that once a year, then that would make [my] heart fuller.”
