Man Charged In L.A. With Attempting To Extort Kevin Hart

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said today that it has charged a man with trying to extort Kevin Hart by trying to coerce the actor-comedian into paying him for a secretly recorded video.

Jonathan Todd Jackson, 41, was charged with one count each of attempted extortion and extortion by threatening letter. If convicted on both counts, Jackson faces a possible maximum sentence of four years in county jail.

According to the DA’s office, Jackson attempted to extort an undisclosed amount of money from Hart between August 25-30, 2017, saying he had video of the actor with a woman in Las Vegas. Prosecutors say he is accused of trying to sell the recording to celebrity news websites.

Prosecutors are recommending bail Jackson’s bail be set at $100,000. He is expected to be arraigned today in downtown Los Angeles.
