Ed Sheeran, 26, is engaged to his childhood friend, Cherry Seaborn, 24
January 22, 2018I know I’ve developed a reputation as Celebitchy’s resident romantic/Pollyanna, but I can still call ‘em like I see ‘em, and when I saw the news that singer Ed Sheeran proposed to his longtime girlfriend, risk advisory consultant Cherry Seaborn, I was like “Congratulations…?”
The singer posted a Polaroid pic of a somewhat awkward looking smooch with his bride-to-be on Saturday, captioning the shot “Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx.” By the way, it’s the only photo I could find of Cherry on his Insta. Curious.
The couple has known each other since they were kids. They both attended Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk, England where Ed had a crush on Cherry, but apparently Ed had no game. Cherry then went off to Duke University and eventually ended up working on Wall Street. The two started dating on July of 2015, after they both randomly ended up at parties in Rhode Island over fourth of July weekend, and have been an item ever since. The couple spent most of 2016 traveling the world together. In December, Cherry moved to London to be with Ed. It sounds like they have a mutual love of cats. Ed reportedly wrote the song “Perfect” about his current relationship.
The couple have yet to set a date, but Ed has alluded that you may be hearing a lot less of him on the radio once he’s officially a family man, telling the UK’s Daily Star, “My ambition is going to go to zero as soon as I have kids. I am going to be like, ‘I do not really care anymore as I have another life to take care of’. It is totally understandable because you have children and your ambition shifts to be like, ‘I want to be a good father’.”
So, this all sounds okay on paper, but let’s not forget that Ed told told Rolling Stone last year that “One of the main points of being in a relationship with me, you have to be really f–king sociable and good at talking to people, because I will be dragged away loads at parties and events. And Cherry’s perfect at it. She makes friends with everyone.” If he really does want to focus on being a husband and father, good for him. I just don’t know, if at 26, he’s ready to kiss all of those “parties and events” goodbye just yet. I’m going to wait and see what happens with these two.
