‘American Idol’ Inches Up On ‘The Voice’; ‘Carpool Karaoke’ Special Enjoys Comedy Lead-In

NBC won Monday in the demo and total viewers with The Voice again winning the singing competition derby to finish as the night’s No.1 show in both metrics. But 8-10 PM Voice (1.5, 8.28M) dropped a tick while ABC’s two-hour American Idol (1.4, 7.59M) inched up, producing the season’s closest head-to-head finish for the wo singing competitions.

At 10 PM, NBC’s Good Girls (0.9, 4.14M) took the 10 PM hour in the demo while ABC’s Crossing (0.7, 4.24M) snagged top spot in total viewers.

James Corden’s annual The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special (0.8, 3.84M) improved in the demo but slipped in overall audience compared to last May’s broadcast, when it’s lead-in had been the doc Princess Di special, Princess Diana: Her Life, Her Death, the Truth.

Time time, CBS tried fueling Cordon’s music-and-celebrities special with two hours of comedy hit repeats, starting at 8 PM with The Big Bang Theory (1.0, 6.41M), followed by two Young Sheldon episodes (1.0, 6.06M; 1.0, 5.86M) and another Big Bang (1.0, 5.55M).

Opposite all that singing, Fox’s Lucifer (0.7, 2.82M) stayed steady week to week, while The Resident (0.8, 3.92M) dipped, as did CW’s Supergirl (0.4, 1.38) in a series demo low, and iZombie (0.2, 710K).

NBC (1.3, 6.90M) took the night, followed by ABC (1.2, 6.47M), and CBS (0.9, 5.26M. Fox (0.7, 3.37M) followed, then CW (0.3, 1.05M).
