The newspaper got a list of the unsurprising questions from a source. The open-ended queries appear to be an attempt to penetrate Trump’s thinking, to get at the motivation of some of his most combative tweets and to examine his relationship with family members and closest advisers, the paper explained.
Among the question Mueller wants to ask, are some dealing with his high-profile firing of FBI director James Comey and deputy Andrew McCabe. That will include an ask as to what exactly he meant in that interview with Lester Holt about sacking Comey because the Russian collusion probe was made up by Dems.
Trump also should expect questions about his first national security adviser Michael Flynn, his treatment of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr. Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort, and Russians offering dirt on Hillary Clinton.
Mueller also wants to ask Trump about conversations he had with Michael Cohen on a Moscow real estate deal, and whether Trump knew about son-in-law Jared Kushner’s efforts to set up back-channel communications with Russia during the transition. Trump’s conversations with Roger Stone and his ties to Wikileaks also will come up, as will questions about Trump’s 2013 trip to Moscow for the Miss Universe Pageant.
“The majority relate to possible obstruction of justice, demonstrating how an investigation into Russia’s election meddling grew to include an examination of the president’s conduct in office,” NYT reports. “Among them are queries on any discussions Mr. Trump had about his attempts to fire Mr. Mueller himself and what the president knew about possible pardon offers to Mr. Flynn.”
