J.J. Abrams Says ‘Cloverfield’ Sequel In The Works ‘For Theaters’; Shows Off ‘Overlord’ – CinemaCon
Beaming in by video at CinemaCon, J.J. Abrams in introducing a work-in-progress clip for Overlord casually mentioned “It’s not a Cloverfield movie” but one “is in the works for theaters.”

He provided no further details, keeping the focus on Bad Robot’s first R-rated movie Overlord, a sci-fi film mixed with World War II. He introduced the first footage from the film that follows American paratroopers who, on the eve of D-Day, are dropped behind enemy lines on a critical mission, and begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation.
“You are about to embark upon a great crusade. You will bring about the destruction of the German army. The eyes of the world are upon you,” a narrator says as the video opens with a shot of the paratroopers on a plane. Cut to a montage of jump scare images including a French talking disembodied head.
Julius Avery directed the film, which stars Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Jacob Anderson, Pilou Asbaek, Iain De Caestecker, John Magaro, and Bokeem Woodbine.
The pic hits theaters on Oct. 26 this year.
Recently, Paramount unloaded the previous administration’s The Cloverfield Paradox to Netflix on Super Bowl Sunday. It was simply right for OTT audiences. Combined Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane have grossed $281M WW.
