As Tom Hardy Promised, A New ‘Venom’ Trailer Drops At CinemaCon

It wouldn’t be a CinemaCon Sony presentation unless they unveiled another Venom trailer, and that’s exactly what happened tonight, just as star Tom Hardy teased on Instagram over the weekend. The trailer officially drops tomorrow, though eight seconds of the new trailer leaked online earlier today.

In the trailer, we see more Venom than the first trailer, which largely focused on Hardy’s alter ego Eddie Brock. “See we didn’t forget to put Venom in the movie!” exclaimed Sony Motion Pictures boss Tom Rothman toward the criticism that the first trailer received.

Tom Hardy, Michelle Moore (who Sony Motion Pictures boss told the audience “should have won the Oscar for All the Money in the World), Riz Ahmed and director Fleischer introduced the clip. “I wanted to do a movie that my son could watch,” said Hardy.

The pic opens on Oct 5, during the first weekend of the month. For quite some time, studios have been trying to bust the box office to new heights over this period, as moviegoers have shown to come out during this period of the fall, i.e. previous record openings owned by 2013’s Gravity ($55.7M) and 20th Century Fox’s The Martian ($54.3M). Blade Runner 2049 in all of its jarring glitz unfortunately couldn’t do it last year with a $32.7M start.
