Kerry Ehrin Inks Overall Deal With Apple, Replaces Jay Carson As Showrunner Of Reese Witherspoon-Jennifer Aniston Series

Apple is closing its first overall deal. In a competitive situation, the streaming service has landed Bates Motel co-creator/co-showrunner Kerry Ehrin. Under the exclusive pact, which is expected to begin as soon as Ehrin’s current overall deal at Universal TV ends later this spring, she will be named showrunner of Apple’s high-profile morning show drama series starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.

Ehrin will replace the series’ writer/executive producer Jay Carson. Apple and the series’ production studio Media Res have amicably parted ways with Carson due to creative differences.

The morning show series, which has a two-season straight-to-series order for 10 episodes a season, is based on an original idea by Media Res founder Michael Ellenberg. It is described as an inside look at the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning, exploring the unique challenges faced by the women (and men) who carry out this daily televised ritual.

Ehrin will executive produce. Aniston executive produces through her Echo Films banner; Witherspoon through her Hello Sunshine production company, and Ellenberg through Media Res. Brian Stelter’s book Top of the Morning had been optioned to provide additional background material, and Stelter will serve as a consultant on the series.

Multiple Emmy, WGA, and AFI-nominated television writer/producer Ehrin most recently served as co-creator, executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Carlton Cuse of the praised A&E Psycho prequel series Bates Motel. She previously worked closely with Jason Katims on Friday Night Lights and Parenthood. She is repped by Rothman Brecher Ehrich Livingston.
