Ready Or Not, “Bill & Ted” Will Probably Be Having One More Excellent Adventure

Do we need a third installment of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure? Of course not. Are we getting one anyway? Almost definitely, according to Entertainment Weekly. Is this something anybody wants? Depends on who you ask. Wyld Stallyns Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter reunited with Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, the original writers of B&T, for an EW shoot and discussed how Bill & Ted Face The Music is finally thiiiis close to being a done deal. So that’s at least four votes for “excellent“.

Here’s Ted trying to escape one of Bill’s farts.

Whoa… could there be another #BillAndTed movie? 😱 'Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure' hit theaters in 1989 and became a box office phenomenon. 🎟 1991 brought a sequel, 'Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.' So the big question on our minds when we reunited #KeanuReeves and #AlexWinter with writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon was "what's next?" Turns out 'Bill & Ted 3' could be a real possibility! 👏 Click the link in our bio for more details. 📷: @peggysirota for EW

Apparently the idea for a final chapter for B&T has been knocking around since 2007 but the production kept getting blue balls.

“We’ve been to the altar a few times,” is how Solomon describes the lengthy development process, which has been full of rumors but has resulted in no actual production news as of yet. “We get rejected right about the ‘now you may kiss the bride’ part of it.”

Even Bill can’t resist Ted’s Zaddy appeal.

It's a #BillAndTed reunion! 😯We sat down with #KeanuReeves and #AlexWinter, the stars of 'Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,' to discuss alternate endings and more. The 1989 time-hopping fantasy is about two wannabe rockstars who go to great lengths to pass their history class. Click the link in our bio for all the details. 📷: @PeggySirota for EW

Working closely with Keanu and Alex, Chris and Ed say they have a script they can “stand behind.Dean Parisot, who directed Galaxy Quest, is in as director, and Steven Soderbergh will be a producer. B&T will be a continuation of the original Excellent Adventure. I don’t know if anybody remembers what the hell happened in the sequel B&T’s Bogus Journey, including these guys, because nobody mentioned it at all except to say that Bill Sadler’s coming back as Death. According to EW:

The result of their efforts is a script titled Bill & Ted Face the Music, which finds our intrepid explorers still struggling to complete the great work of their life. At the end of Excellent Adventure, futuristic mentor Rufus (George Carlin) told the teens that they would write music that would turn the world into a utopia. “You’re told you’re gonna save the world,” Matheson says. “And now you’re 50 and you haven’t done it. Now they’re married, and it affects their marriages, and it affects their relationships with their kids, and it affects their everything.”

So Bill & Ted’s Mid-Life Crisis then? Maybe Ben Affleck can cameo (“a few delicious cameos” have been promised) as a mystical hog riding tattoo artist who leads B&T on a harrowing adventure through the Hall Of Regrets. Still, almost everything becomes tolerable if you add enough Keanu. I learned this sitting through Point Break a couple of weeks ago and realizing just how shitty it was, yet unable to resist especially after being treated to a pick-up beach football game featuring Johnny Utah in a crop top. At that point there was no turning back. I feel the same way about this.
