The new 9.7-inch iPad now supports the Apple Pencil (aka: a stylus) and boasts a vivid Retina display, advanced cameras and a speedier microprocessor. Perhaps most eye-catching is the price: $329 for consumers, and $299 for students. The digital pencil is sold separately for $99, with a $10 discount for pupils.
“This new 9.7-inch iPad takes everything people love about our most popular iPad and makes it even better for inspiring creativity and learning,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of product marketing.
The device, with its lower price, is designed to enhance Apple’s competitiveness in the education market, where Google’s rival Chromebooks dominate with a 58% share. Analyst Future Source found that Google gained an edge in the classroom because its devices are more affordable and linked to Google’s popular software.
