‘Superstore’ Finale Ratings Even With 2017, ‘Big Bang Theory’ Up From Low
It’s that time of year when the season is winding down and the finales are coming almost nightly with many likely to see ratings declines in the changing landscape. On a fairly steady primetime NBC newbies AP Bio (0.6/3) and Champions (0.4/2) wrapped up their inaugural runs last night while Superstore (0.8/4) ended its third season a much-expected kiss and several story seeds blooming.

Rising 14% from last week among adults 18-49, the America Ferrera led big box store sitcom also hit a distinction of sorts by coming out even with its Season 2 ender of last year in the key demo. For the new comedies from the Comcast-owned network, the Seth Meyers and Lorne Michaels EP’d Bio was up a tenth from its April 26 airing, while the Mindy Kaling EP’d Champions was unchanged among the 18-49s. Ending the night for NBC, but not its season until next week, Chicago Fire (1.0/4) was up a tenth too.
Overall with a 0.7/3, NBC was in third place in the demo behind winner CBS’ 1.4/6 and ABC’s 1.1/4. As Gotham dropped a tenth from its last original to a series low of 0.5/2 and Showtime At the Apollo (0.6/2) stayed even, Fox was next with a 0.6/2. Arrow (0.4/2) rose a tenth and Supernatural (0.4/2) remained the same as its fast affiliate result of April 26, so the CW drew a 0.4/2, the same as it did in the final numbers of last week. All the nets faced high drama on the court as the NBA and TNT saw victories for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics in their respective Conference Semifinals.
Heading towards its wedding themed Season 11 ender of May 10, The Big Bang Theory (2.3/11) scaled up 21% from last week’s fast affiliates low. The highest rated show of Thursday, BBT was also the most watched as usual with 12.63 million tuning in on a night that saw the night winning House of Moonves have 8.24 million sets of eyeballs overall.
Fellow CBS comedies Young Sheldon (1.9/8), Mom (1.4/6) and Life In Pieces (1.1/4) were all up a tenth as cop drama S.W.A.T. (0.8/4) stayed the same. To add another level of context, remember that last week, CBS, NBC, ABC and the CW faced the muscle of the NFL Draft on Fox.
With that, on ABC, Grey’s Anatomy (1.6/7) got an injection of 14% and Station 19 (1.1/4) rose 22% from last week’s fast affiliates – which saw the long running medical drama rise a tenth in the final numbers. In another rare result in today’s harsh ratings world, 10 PM’s Quantico (0.5/2) with its Season 3 debut of April 26, which matched a series low.
